What do I need to bring?
For the full-day class, you supply your own makeup, outfits (unless other arrangements have been made) , shoes, and hot rollers if you have them. For a full day class you might want to bring a drink and lunch. If you don't have any of these items, you might prefer to book a private makeover session instead.
I'm plus size, can I take this class?
Yes! Bettina May celebrates all body types in her class, and believes there is a bombshell hiding in every woman. She ensures that the class is a safe space for all shapes, and will not tolerate any negative language, whether directed at other students or yourself; words are powerful!
I'm really shy, is this class for me?
Yes! Forget those first day of school jitters, because everyone in class will be in the same boat, as most people come alone. The relaxed pace of the class will allow you plenty of time to get to know the other students and Bettina May and feel more comfortable, so by the time you get in front of the camera at the end of the day, you will be much more at ease.
What if I'm not photogenic?

Can men take the class?
Men are allowed to take Bettina May’s Bombshell Hair class, and may sit in on the demo portion of the full Pin-Up class if they can prove they have a valid reason to learn women’s hair and makeup styling. They must, however, leave before the makeovers start, as the class is only open to participants. She welcomes drag queens and those who identify as women to stay for the makeover and photoshoot.
Can my friend/Mom sit in on the class?
No one who hasn’t paid for the class can sit in to watch, as that is unfair to all the participants who have paid. There is a demo option for those who want to learn the techniques demonstrated in class without getting a makeover and photoshoot.
I'm under 21; can I still take the class? This depends on the venue, as many of the locations are held in bars where the minimum age is 21. Contact Bettina May to double check if you are between 18-21, and those under 18 will need to be dropped off by a parent or legal guardian so they can sign a consent form.
What do I get for my full class fee? Participants in the full Pin-Up Class get vintage hair and make-up styling instruction, their hair styled, assistance with make-up if needed, help selecting an outfit, a cd of their photos that day with at least 30 unretouched hi-res images, and a booklet with all the information Bettina May talks about in class.
Can I buy this as a gift for a friend or girlfriend?
Definitely! Contact Bettina May to purchase a gift certificate if you don’t know what day the recipient would be able to attend, or go ahead and purchase the class if you know the date available, and just send Bettina a note when you make your payment telling her the recipient’s name, and whom to contact about the gift class.
I'm coming alone to class, will everyone else be there with friends?
It is normal for students come to class solo, and almost all of Bettina May’s classes end with women making new friends, as they discover a shared interest in vintage style! Don’t feel you need to bring a crew (though feel free if you like!). Isn’t it nice to be ahead of the crowd?
I need to leave early, what will I miss?
If you need to leave early, in most cases you can be the first to have your makeover and photoshoot so you can get out in time. Just make sure to check with Bettina in advance, and remind her again in class so you get ready first. |
